Definition
A basic poker term used in building strategies, referring to the profit a player can extract from their hand. It is closely tied to the value bet – a bet for value whose goal is to win the biggest possible pot with the best hand. A value bet is the opposite of a bluff, whose aim is to force the opponent to fold before showdown.
