Definition
Putting chips or money into the pot. Bets can be forced (big and small blinds, antes) or voluntary. Depending on their purpose, all bets can be divided into three groups: value bets, protection bets and bluffs. When betting for value, the player has the best hand, wants to build the pot and is counting on a call or a raise from the opponent. A protection bet is needed when the player does not want the opponent to see the next streets for free and make a stronger hand. A bluff bet is made with trash hands and aims to knock all opponents out of the hand.
