A mandatory bet that every player in the game must post before the cards are dealt. The size of the ante can range from 1/8 to 1/4 of one bet. The main purpose of this bet is to encourage players to take part in the hand by building an initial pot. The ante can be used as the only mandatory bet or together with the blinds.
