Isolation

Definition

An aggressive action, usually a raise, aimed at forcing one or more opponents to fold so as to play heads-up against one of the players in the hand. For example, one of the players limps (calls the big blind), and Hero raises, suspecting that this opponent has a suitable hand to play heads-up against. With his raise, Hero forces the other opponents to give up by making it too expensive for them to stay in the hand.
