Definition

Calling the big blind preflop when no previous player has raised. The main goal of a limp is to see the flop cheaply with hands that are not good enough. However, if there are aggressive players in late positions, this goal is rarely achieved – they raise, and the limper ends up in a tough spot. He has to either fold, losing chips, or call with little chance of making the best hand on the flop. A limp is also sometimes used against aggressive players as a slowplay with monster hands like KK and AA.
