Definition
A line in which a player first calls an opponent’s bet and then bets themselves with a not-strong-enough hand to take the pot with a bluff. This move works well against opponents who often steal the blinds and use continuation bets but easily give up to aggression in return. For example, Player 1 in the CO raises to 3 BB, Player 2 with 6h 6d calls from the small blind, and everyone else folds. The flop comes 2d 5s Kc. Player 2 checks and Player 1 bets 5 BB. If Player 2 now re-raises, that action is called a float.
