Definition
A mandatory bet in poker that players post before the cards are dealt. The players in the positions that post these “blind” bets are also called blinds. Blinds are used in poker variants such as Hold’em, Omaha, draw poker, lowball and Badugi. There is a small blind and a big blind, and the former is usually half the size of the latter. The purpose of the blinds is to build an initial pot to motivate players to take part in the hand.
