Definition
A hand that can turn into a very strong combination if the draw “gets there”. If the cards needed to complete the strong combination don’t come on the turn or river, such a hand will lose at showdown in most cases. For example, Hero holds 6d 7d and the flop comes 5h 4h Ts. Hero is said to have a straight draw with 4h 5h 6d 7d, and he needs a 3 or an 8 to complete the straight, so the player has 8 outs for the draw to get there.
