Pot Control

Definition

A playing tactic aimed at keeping the pot small when holding hands that are not strong enough. Pot control is mainly achieved through a passive line: check-calling out of position, and simply calling or checking in position. The core concept of no-limit poker is to build the pot as big as possible with the nuts and to get to showdown with a weak or medium hand while keeping the pot to a minimum. Pot control helps reduce losses in situations where we are not sure how strong our hand is.
