Pot Odds

Definition

The ratio of the pot to the size of the call needed to stay in the hand. By comparing pot odds with the chances of winning, a player decides whether to call the opponent’s bet or better fold. If the pot odds turn out lower than the odds of improving, the bet should be called – in the long run this action will be profitable.
