Opening the betting with a raise preflop. This action means being the first to voluntarily enter the betting (not counting the forced blind bets) by raising. That is, if nobody has entered the hand before you and you bet more than 1 BB, that is an open raise. For example, Hero in the UTG position is first to act and bets 2.5 BB – this bet is an open raise.
