Definition
Calling the big blind preflop after one or more players have already entered the hand by limping. This action is usually considered suboptimal, since an overlimp builds a multiway pot. Calling the big blind behind is done with “creative” hands in the hope of making at least two pair or a set – hands that can win a multiway pot. Small pocket pairs, connectors, including one- and two-gappers, and suited cards with a high kicker are well suited for overlimping.
