Check/Raise

Definition

A poker tactic in which a player out of position checks and, if the opponent bets, raises in response. The goal is to induce the opponent to bet while holding a strong hand, in order to build the pot. A check/raise should be used only against aggressive opponents; against passive players it is better to bet yourself when out of position.
