Multiway Pot

Definition

A pot contested postflop by three or more players. For example, if preflop a player in the UTG position limps, the other players fold, the small blind calls and the big blind checks, then a multiway pot with three players is formed on the flop. Playing against two or more opponents is much harder than against one (heads-up), so the goal of a player with a strong hand preflop is to reduce the number of opponents to one. After all, the chances of winning even with a pair of aces drop from 85% heads-up to 73% in a three-way pot.
