Definition
The final betting round in community-card poker variants, when the last, fifth card is placed on the table. The river is the third postflop street and the last chance to complete a hand if a player is on a draw. If two or more players remain after the river betting ends, the final part of the hand begins: the showdown, where the winner is determined by comparing hands.
