Straight Draw

Definition

An unfinished straight that needs one more card to complete. A straight draw can be open-ended or a gutshot. An open-ended draw can be completed by either of two cards: for example, with 5 6 7 8 the straight needs a 9 or a 4, so the player has 8 outs. A gutshot (inside straight draw) is completed only by cards of one rank, giving 4 outs: for example, with 5 6 8 9 you need a seven to complete the straight. There is also a special kind of straight draw, the double belly buster, which combines the properties of a gutshot and an open-ended draw. For example, A Q J T 8 improves to a straight if a K or a 9 comes.
